Getting started
- Create a free account at finvault.org — no credit card required.
- Add your holdings in the Portfolio panel (ticker, shares, average cost) or connect a broker for automatic sync — see Security for how that works.
- The Newsroom and Today view immediately re-rank around what you actually own.
FAQ
Is Meridian actually free?
Yes — no trial, no credit card, no expiration. Live prices, daily picks, news ranked by your holdings, portfolio tracking, and the trade analyzer are all free. Pro ($12/mo) adds unlimited portfolio analysis, price and news alerts, broker auto-sync, and early access to the Meridian Display.
Where does the market data come from?
Live prices from Yahoo Finance, queried roughly every minute. News from CNBC, Reuters, MarketWatch, and Bloomberg RSS feeds. The daily picks screener runs every 4 hours during market hours.
Is my portfolio data private?
Yes — see the Security page for the full breakdown of how storage, broker sync, and OAuth work.
Can I self-host my own instance?
Meridian isn't yet packaged as a public install — right now finvault.org is a single self-hosted instance running on our own Raspberry Pi. A distributable self-hosting guide is on the radar; there's nothing to install today.
Troubleshooting
- Prices look stale. Market data can be delayed up to 15 minutes depending on the source — this is normal and disclosed on every price.
- Broker sync shows 0 holdings after connecting. Go to the Portfolio panel and click Sync again — the first sync after authorizing can take a few seconds to land.
- Alerts aren't firing. Alerts are checked on a schedule, not instantly — allow a few minutes around the threshold being crossed.
- Site is unreachable. finvault.org runs on a single Raspberry Pi; if it's ever down, it's most likely a restart or a home internet blip, not a data issue.
